Oswego fishing charters
Where the biggest fish of the year get caught. Oswego is a working harbour at the mouth of a real river, with deep water close by and the largest concentration of serious charter operations on the eastern end of the lake. In August and September, when mature Chinook begin staging before their run, this is the address.
The water
What Oswego is good for
The staging bite is what makes Oswego's reputation. From late July into September, big mature kings gather off the harbour and along the eastern shoreline in sixty to a hundred and twenty feet of water, feeding hard before they head for the tributaries. These are the twenty-five and thirty-pound fish that people photograph. The fleet works them with riggers, wire divers and heavy copper, and the mornings can be genuinely chaotic in the best way.
Earlier in the season it is a more conventional offshore program — June and July kings and lake trout out on the thermocline, and spring browns in close. The harbour's depth means big boats and short runs, and Wright's Landing is one of the better-equipped marinas on the lake.
The Oswego River itself is a fishery most visitors overlook entirely. Below the dam it gives up walleye, brown trout, steelhead and smallmouth, and the river walls offer genuine shore fishing within walking distance of downtown.

How far ahead do I need to book?

Is there anything to fish from shore?
